Authorities are responding to an ongoing protest by far-right group NRW Awakens at Geschwister-Scholl-Platz in the Barmen neighborhood of Wuppertal, Germany, on Aug. 19. Organizers have stated hundreds of people were attending the protest. Counter protests have materialized near the event.

Localized transport disruptions and heightened security are likely to last at least through the duration of the demonstration. Although the gathering will probably remain largely peaceful, and police will work to keep opposing groups of protesters apart, low-level confrontations between protesters and police, or opposing groups of protesters, cannot be ruled out.
