Germany: Protest march ongoing in Celle Aug. 19

Activists are conducting a protest march in Celle, Lower Saxony State, Aug. 19 to denounce the Lower Saxony State Party conference of the right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD). Protesters gathered in front of the Celle train station and started walking towards the Congress Union, where the conference is taking place. Organizers stated that around 1,500 people were attending the protest.

Localized transport disruptions and heightened security are likely to last at least through the duration of the demonstration. Although the gathering will probably remain largely peaceful, low-level confrontations with police or drivers cannot be ruled out.
