Suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked Lango la Shamba village, along Witu-Lamu-Garsen road in Lamu County, Aug. 21. At least two people were killed in the incident. During the assault, the assailants set fire to several houses.

Increased security is likely near the impact site. Security operations could lead to localized travel disruptions. Similar Al-Shabaab attacks or clashes between Kenyan security forces and militants are possible.

Context

Al-Shabaab carries out regular attacks near the porous border with Somalia as well as in coastal areas of Kenya. The incidents are viewed as retaliation for Kenya's participation in a multinational force fighting Al-Shabaab in Somalia since 2011.
