The High Electricity Tariffs Must Fall Movement will hold a protest against increased electricity prices at the Civic Center in Cape Town from 10:00 Aug. 26. Protestors are reportedly opposing the City of Cape Town's tariff increase of 17.6 percent, which exceeds the 15.1 percent increase recommended by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA). The movement has received the support of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and from political parties Action SA, the Good Party, and Al Jama-Ah, amongst others.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest. Violence is unlikely, though minor scuffles with security services are possible.
