Sri Lanka: Ongoing water supply shortages likely to continue nationwide through at least early September
Ongoing water supply shortages likely to persist in Sri Lanka through at least early September. Commercial disruptions possible.
Event
Ongoing water service disruptions are likely to persist in Sri Lanka through at least early September due to extended dry weather conditions. The National Water Supply and Drainage Board has indicated that water supply will be limited in several districts nationwide, including Ampara and Batticaloa, Eastern Province; Badulla, Uva Province; Gampaha, Western Province; Hambantota, Southern Province; and Jaffna, Northern Province. Utility providers will supply distilled drinking water in 15 districts.
Business disruptions are possible, especially for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water for operations.
Advice
Confirm alternative water supplies for business operations. Pressure and water quality may be poor after normal service resumes; consider running taps for several minutes before using water. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes.
