Switzerland: Freight train derails in a tunnel between Arth-Goldau and Bellinzona Aug. 10.

A freight train derailed in the Gotthard tunnel connecting Arth-Goldau and Bellinzona. The tunnel is experiencing restricted rail traffic which is causing delays and cancellations. The EC, IC2, IC21, IR, and PE lines are impacted, while all trains from Zurich to Milan are canceled. Disruptions are expected through 23:30. Authorities have not indicated that any casualties occurred as a result of the crash.

Rail traffic that runs between Arth-Goldau and Bellinzona will likely experience significant delays until the blockage is cleared, and lingering disruptions may persist through the night of Aug. 10-11.

Reconfirm all rail travel that will pass near Arth-Goldau and Bellinzona, including international travel between Switzerland and Italy. Allow additional time if traveling by rail near the impacted area.
