UK: Unionized airport ground staff partially cancel strikes at Gatwick Airport planned for Aug. 4-8 /update 2

Ground staff at London Gatwick Airport, UK, partially cancel strikes planned for Aug. 4-8.

Informational

Event

Unionized ground staff and baggage handlers represented by the Unite labor union have partially canceled strikes originally planned for Aug. 4-8 at London Gatwick Airport (LGW). The move comes after employees of three of the four ground-handling companies participating in the labor action accepted increased pay offers from management. However, as of Aug. 1, workers at the fourth company - Gatwick Ground Services (GGS), which provides ground handling support to British Airways (BA) - have made no announcement as to whether they would also be accepting the offer and calling off their walkout.

Delays are possible on British Airways flights at LGW if GGS employees vote to move forward with their labor action.

Advice

Monitor trusted local sources for updates on the strike vote by GGS employees. Contact travel service provider to reconfirm flights if booked to travel on British Airways via LGW Aug. 4-8.
