Lingering flight delays and cancellations are likely at airports in the Boston, Massachusetts, area after thunderstorms prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to issue a ground stop and ground delay program for Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) Aug. 18. The ground stop is in effect at BOS until at least 17:45, and the ground delay program is in effect at the airport until at least 22:59. As of around 17:15, departures to BOS were experiencing delays averaging 61 minutes due to the storms. The air traffic control measures could be extended or rescinded on short notice.

The FAA may issue additional ground stops and/or ground delay programs for Boston-area airports over the coming hours.
