DRC: Chinese nationals killed by suspected bandits in Ngalula, South Kivu, Sept. 1

Suspected armed bandits killed two Chinese nationals, members of their security detail, and a driver while leaving Ngalula, Fizi Territory, South Kivu Province, around 11:00 Sept. 1. Preliminary reports indicate that the attackers attempted to seize mining minerals in transit to Tanganyika Province; two others were reportedly injured. Security forces were deployed to the scene, and an investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely over the coming days as police attempt to locate and apprehend the perpetrators. Clashes between security forces and the assailants cannot be ruled out.

Ngalula is located approximately 95 km (56 mi) from Fizi.
