Nepal: Further medical doctor strikes possible nationwide through mid-October

Doctors from the Nepal Medical Association (NMA) may participate in further strikes across Nepal through mid-October to condemn recent incidents of assaults on doctors. Related work stoppages have occurred since Sept. 18 in cities such as Lumbini, Kathmandu, Nepalgunj, and Pokhara, causing disruptions to outpatient medical services. Doctors have also staged peaceful protests near affected hospitals.

Reduced outpatient medical services are possible during any work stoppage. Participating doctors could stage pickets or engage in other forms of protest near hospitals and clinics; authorities may deploy increased security near any such gatherings that materialize. Localized transport disruptions are possible near potential protests. Violence is unlikely.
