Ongoing customs strike at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, Nepal, Sept. 11. Disruptions possible through at least Sept. 13.

Informational

Event

Customs workers are on strike at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu Sept. 11. Participants are calling for mass transfers and denouncing the arrests of workers allegedly involved in a gold smuggling case. Organizers will announce the next phase of their labor action if the government does not address their demands by Sept. 13. While plans for related demonstrations are not yet available, gatherings remain possible at KTM.

Although there have been no reports of airport operations disruptions at KTM, security screening points for domestic and international flights could experience longer wait times and queues. Cargo and freight shipping disruptions are possible at KTM.

Advice

Monitor local media for updates on the status of the strike. Allow additional time to pass through customs checks if traveling to or from Kathmandu. Plan accordingly for potential supply chain disruptions due to cargo backlogs and customs clearance delays at KTM. Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution.
