Niger: Activists plan to stage a protest in Niamey Sept. 28

Activists plan to stage a demonstration at the Escadrille roundabout in Niamey, Niger, starting at 16:00 Sept. 28. Avoid all protests.

Warning

Event

Activists associated with the M62 Movement and Nigerien Pan-Africanist Emergencies plan to stage a demonstration titled the "Grand Panafrican Meeting" at the Escadrille roundabout, dubbed "Place de la Resistance," located near Diori Hamani International Airport (NIM), from 16:00 on Sept. 28. The purpose of the action is to show support for the ruling National Council for the Protection of the Homeland (CNSP) and denounce alleged French influence in the country. Organizers call on participants to attend the event. It is not immediately clear how many participants the event may draw.

Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security presence near the demonstration. Localized transportation and business disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the protest rally and may impact NIM. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, mainly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations due to potential clashes. If clashes occur, immediately leave the vicinity and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Plan for transport and business disruptions around NIM airport. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and the respective embassies.
