Warning

Event

Lingering flight delays and cancellations are likely at airports in Central and South Florida after thunderstorms prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to issue a ground stop and caution travelers of delays impacting airports in the region Sept. 8. As of around 15:15, the FAA had issued a ground stop at Orlando International Airport (MCO) while reporting that departures from MCO were delayed an average of 105 minutes and delay times were increasing. Additionally, the FAA had reportedly issued a ground delay program for Tampa International Airport (TPA) earlier in the day that the agency has since rescinded.

The FAA may issue additional ground stops and/or ground delay programs in Central and South Florida over the coming hours, including at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The air traffic control measures could be extended or rescinded on short notice.

Advice

Confirm flight reservations with your airline if flying via an airport in Central or South Florida Sept. 8; do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
