US: Severe weather prompts flight disruptions from Washington, DC, area to Boston, Mass., Sept. 11

Lingering flight disruptions likely after FAA issues ground stop, delay programs across Northeast region, US, amid severe weather Sept. 11.

Warning

Event

Flight delays and cancellations are likely at airports in the Northeast Megalopolis region (Northeast Corridor) of the US, extending from Washington, DC, to the Boston, Massachusetts, area, through at least late Sept. 11 due to severe weather. Thunderstorms and low ceilings, among other factors, have prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to issue ground stops and ground delay programs for several airports in the region, including Boston Logan International (BOS), Washington Dulles International (IAD), LaGuardia (LGA), John F. Kennedy International (JFK), Newark Liberty International (EWR), and Teterboro (TEB) airports. Additionally, the FAA had advised as of shortly before 15:30 that departures from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) were delayed an average of 90 minutes, and that delay times were increasing. The air traffic control measures could be extended or rescinded on short notice.

The FAA may issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for other airports in the region over the coming hours.

Advice

Contact your airline to confirm flight status if booked to travel via an airport in the Northeast Megalopolis region (Northeast Corridor) Sept. 11. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
