Warning

Event

Residents plan to hold a protest march in central Varna from 18:00 Oct. 6. The purpose of the demonstration is to express solidarity with an ongoing miners strike in other parts of Bulgaria. Participants will depart from the Varna Municipality building on 8th Primorski Polk Boulevard at 18:00 and proceed through the city center before returning to the start point. Along the way, demonstrators will march past the Youth Center (Mladezki Dom), Varna University of Economics, the Black Sea Hotel (Hotel Cherno More), the Regional Administration building, and Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral (Pravoslaven Katedrala Hram Uspenie Bogodorichno); however, organizers have not announced an exact march route. It is unclear how many participants may attend.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely along the demonstration route. Isolated clashes between demonstrators and police or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central Varna late Oct. 6. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities. Immediately depart the area at the first indication that any security disturbance may occur.
