Unionized air traffic controllers to hold a partial nationwide strike in Chile Oct. 6. Flight delays likely.

Warning

Event

Unionized air traffic controllers affiliated with the Chilean College of Air Traffic Controllers (Colegio de Controladores de Tránsito Aéreo, ATC) plan to hold a partial nationwide strike in Chile on Oct. 6 to demand several concessions from national authorities, including investments in improving communications, and technology related to their work, additional recruitment of air traffic controllers, and a reduction to 32 work hours a week in the sector.

ATC authorities have confirmed the labor action will occur for a limited time, mainly during the morning hours and conclude in the early afternoon. Additionally, organizers state the strike will lead to air traffic jams and delays of up to three hours. They said they will not risk problems in planes already on air and will not force them to change routes.

Air travel delays are likely, and some flight cancellations are possible on Oct. 6. Disruptions will likely continue through late Oct. 6, even after the strike ends.
