The unrest is in response to an alleged Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militant attack in the area overnight Oct. 23/24 which left at least 20 people dead. Protesters have reportedly torched several UN humanitarian vehicles.

Further violence targeting foreign nationals or United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) assets is likely; security forces will likely deploy to quell the protests.
