Hungary: Pro-Palestinian activists to demonstrate in central Budapest starting at 16:00 Oct. 13

Pro-Palestinian activists to rally at Foreign Affairs Ministry in Budapest, Hungary, Oct. 13. Increased security likely; clashes possible.

Warning

Event

Pro-Palestinian activists plan to rally in central Budapest on Oct. 13. Demonstrators will assemble at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade beginning at 16:00. The purpose of the gathering is to condemn the government of Israel. It remains unclear how many participants the event may draw. Local pro-Israel groups are reportedly urging authorities to prohibit the demonstration.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy increased security in the vicinity of the Ministry for the duration of the demonstration. Security-related transport disruptions are possible. Although the gathering will probably remain largely peaceful, low-level clashes cannot be ruled out if activists from rival groups attempt to stage counter-protests nearby.

Advice

Avoid the area of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade during the afternoon of Oct. 13 as a precaution. Reconfirm or consider rescheduling appointments at the Ministry. Heed the instructions of local security personnel. Allow extra time to reach destinations near the demonstration venue; leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
