Mexico: Unionized judicial workers protest in multiple cities Oct. 17

Unionized judicial workers protest across Mexico Oct. 17. Heightened security, localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Members of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (Poder Judicial de la Federacion, PJF) are demonstrating nationwide on Oct. 17. Participants are protesting the federal government's intention to end certain magistrate privileges. Organizers intend to gather at all judiciary buildings across the country, including various locations in Mexico City. Among these gathering sites in the capital are Periferico Sur and the San Lazaro headquarters building located at Eduardo Molina.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near rally sites. Participants could gather outside other government buildings and on major thoroughfares. Gatherings could attract dozens of participants.

Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, mainly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse.

Advice

Avoid the protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near impacted areas. Seek alternate routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions. Leave the area at the sign of any security disturbances that may materialize. Heed the instructions of authorities.
