Warning

Event

At least 11 people were injured, and infrastructure was damaged in Bajhang District, Nepal, following several earthquakes, Oct. 3. A significant road route in the area, the Jayaprithvi highway, was also blocked following an earthquake-induced landslide. Shaking from the initial magnitude-5.7 earthquake was felt regionwide, including in New Delhi, India. There have been no casualty or damage reports outside of the immediate impact area in northwestern Nepal. Officials will likely release additional impact reports over the coming hours and days.

Further aftershocks and landslides are possible over the coming days. Additional damage to weakened structures is possible, particularly in Bajhang District. Disruptions to road travel may persist for several days as officials repair and clear blocked routes. Further tremors could also damage power and water supply infrastructure.

Advice

Plan accordingly for aftershocks. Consider vacating multistory buildings if operating in affected areas until authorities confirm their structural integrity. Allow additional time for air and road travel, as aftershocks may prompt brief disruptions. Seek updated information on road conditions before driving in hilly areas in the affected region due to potential landslides.
