Poland: Unionized miners to stage protest march in central Warsaw Oct. 11
Unionized miners to hold protest march in Warsaw, Poland, from 11:00 Oct. 11. Localized transport disruptions, heightened security likely.
Event
Unionized miners employed by state-owned power company Polish Energy Group (PGE, Polska Grupa Energetyczna) plan to hold a protest march in central Warsaw Oct. 11 to demand salary increases. The demonstrators will gather at the PGE headquarters at 2 Mysia Street before marching through parts of the city starting at 11:00. Although organizers have as yet released no details concerning the march route, participating miners will make stops at the Ministry of State Assets building at 36 Krucza and the Law and Justice Party headquarters at 84/86 Nowogrodzka as part of their action. It is unclear how many participants the event may draw.
Localized transport disruptions and heightened security are likely along the demonstration route and may linger through the afternoon. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations near the march route. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
