Belgium: Unionized rail workers to strike nationwide Dec. 5-7
Unionized rail workers plan to strike across Belgium from 22:00 Dec. 5-22:00 Dec. 7. Rail transport disruptions expected.
National Railway Company of Belgium (SNCB) employees affiliated with the CGSP Cheminots and SLFP Cheminots unions plan to strike from 22:00 Dec. 5-22:00 Dec. 7 to demand improvements to employment standards and denounce proposed job cuts. SNCB indicated that it would put in place an alternative service schedule; however, details of the replacement schedule were not initially published.
Significant rail disruptions are expected nationwide and may linger several hours after the strike ends. Increased vehicular transport disruptions are likely throughout the labor action. Picket protests cannot be ruled out near the SNCB headquarters (40 Avenue de la Porte de Hal/Hallepoortlaan, Brussels) or near train stations.
Reconfirm all rail travel and consider alternative forms of transport. Consult the SNCB website to check for the alternative service schedule. Allow additional time for vehicular travel. Avoid all picketing demonstrations. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
