DRC: Fuel shortages possible in Kinshasa through early December due to supply disruptions

Fuel shortages possible across Kinshasa, DRC, through early December amid supply disruptions. Related protests also possible.

Informational

Fuel shortages are possible in Kinshasa through at least early December due to supply disruptions. Officials from the Association of Private Oil Tankers of the DRC demand government authorities uphold commitments to cover costs associated with the supply of fuel. Reports indicate shortages occurred within the neighborhoods of Bandalungwa, Gombe, Kasa-Vubu, Kintambo, and Lingwala on Nov. 27. While the scarcity persists, the need has prompted long queues and fuel station closures. Some stations have also run out of supply, forcing some commuters to travel long distances.

Increased demand at available fuel stations remains likely and may prompt congestion on nearby roads. Fuel shortages may affect business operations. If the shortage is protracted, consumer frustration could manifest in sporadic clashes near filling stations or street demonstrations.

Plan for possible fuel shortages and long queues at gas stations. Confirm all ground transport services before travel. Do not buy fuel on the black market. Avoid all demonstrations.
