Finland: Public and welfare sector workers to strike nationwide Nov. 7-9

Unionized public sector and welfare workers plan to strike across Finland, Nov. 7-9. Transport and business disruptions likely.

Informational

Workers affiliated with Finland's Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors (JHL) plan to stage a nationwide campaign of strikes on Nov. 7-9. The purpose of the action is to denounce social security cuts and salary conditions. The work stoppage will begin in Northern Finland and the Oulu region on Nov. 7 before expanding to Southwest Finland on Nov. 8 and Eastern Finland on Nov. 9.

Transport disruptions are possible in the affected regions. Welfare and public services will likely be disrupted for the duration of the action. Striking workers could stage low-level demonstrations or pickets near their places of employment or government buildings.

Avoid any demonstrations as a standard precaution. Reconfirm business appointments with government welfare and public services agencies through at least Nov. 9.
