Guatemala: Indigenous groups to participate in caravan protest in Guatemala City's Metropolitan Area Nov. 21
Indigenous groups to participate in caravan protest in Guatemala City's Metropolitan Area, Guatemala, from 07:00 Nov. 21.
Activists affiliated with the Departmental Committee of Transporters of Solola (Comite Departamental de Transportistas de Solola, CODETRANS) and other groups plan to stage caravan protests in Guatemala City's Metropolitan Area on Nov. 21. Participants will split into at least two main groups, including one that will gather from 07:00 in Ciudad Satelite, in Mixco, and one that will gather in the capital's Parque Morazan from 08:00 before making their way to the Public Ministry building in central Guatemala City. Some groups of protesters will also gather in nearby towns before joining protesters in the capital. The caravan will occur amid a series of protests that have been demanding compliance with the 2023 presidential election results and the resignation of Attorney General Consuelo Porras since early October.
Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the protests. The caravan protests will likely cause significant traffic disruptions across Guatemala City, and protesters will likely block roads with vehicles. Major violence is unlikely; however, isolated skirmishes are possible if police attempt to disperse those who block roads.
Avoid all protests and leave the area at the first sign of violence. Heed the directives of the authorities. Allow extra time to reach destinations across Guatemala City Nov. 21.
