Honduras: Activists to demonstrate in Tegucigalpa Nov. 11

Activists to protest in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, morning of Nov. 11. Tight security likely. Avoid the area.

Warning

Anti-government activists from the Citizen Opposition Bloc (Bloque de Oposicion Ciudadana, or BOC) will hold a protest march in Tegucigalpa from 09:00 Nov. 11. The purpose of the action is to denounce the recent appointment of the interim attorney general, among other issues. Participants plan to gather in front of the sports center of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras. In response, pro-government activists have organized a counter-protest to begin near the Universidad Pedagogica Nacional Francisco Morazan from 08:00. Neither side has specified the destination of their respective marches.

Transport and business disruptions are highly likely in the area. Although the action should be largely peaceful, police will likely deploy to the demonstrations as a precaution. Clashes are possible, especially if police attempt to disperse protesters forcibly or if opposing activists confront each other.

Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
