Activists in parts of Latin America intend to march on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women Nov. 25. Commemorative and educational events related to the day are likely in most Latin American capitals.

Some of the largest demonstrations will occur in the following locations:

  • Asuncion, Paraguay: Plaza Uruguaya from 18:00.

  • Brasilia, Brazil: March from TV Tower to Juscelino Kubitschek Memorial from 08:00.

  • Buenos Aires, Argentina: Plaza del Congreso from 16:00.

  • La Paz, Bolivia: Gathering at Centro de Promocion de la Mujer Gregoria Apaza and march across the city from 09:30.

  • Lima, Peru: Campo de Marte from 15:00.

  • Maceio, Brazil: Praca Centenario from 09:00.

  • Montevideo, Uruguay: Gathering at Plaza Libertad from 17:00 and march to Plaza Independencia from 18:00.

  • Panama City, Panama: Parque Porras from 15:30.

  • Recife, Brazil: Marco Zero from 15:00.

Protests and marches related to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women have also taken place in Caracas, Venezuela, as well as in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and other capitals in previous years; gatherings in these locations are likely Nov. 25. Localized disruptions and heightened security are likely near demonstrations. Marches will likely pass peacefully, but low-level confrontations cannot be ruled out.
