Updated reports indicate at least 128 fatalities as of Nov. 4 following earthquake in northwestern Nepal late Nov. 3. Disruptions ongoing.

Warning

Updated reports indicate at least 128 fatalities and dozens of injuries across northwestern Nepal as of Nov. 4 following a magnitude-5.6 earthquake in Jajarkot District in Karnali Province late the previous day. Nepalese officials measured the quake at magnitude 6.4. Authorities claim the official toll could increase further as they have been unable to establish communication with several villages in remote locations. The worst affected areas are in Jajakot and Rukum districts, with reports of collapsed homes and damaged buildings. Officials have deployed the military to assist with clearing landslides that have blocked off roads leading to the impacted areas.

Further aftershocks and landslides are possible over the coming days. Tremors may cause additional damage to weakened structures, particularly in areas near the epicenter. Disruptions to road travel may persist for several days as officials repair and clear blocked routes. Further tremors could also damage power and water supply infrastructure.

Plan accordingly for aftershocks. Consider vacating multistory buildings if operating in affected areas until authorities confirm their structural integrity. Allow additional time for air and road travel, as aftershocks may prompt brief disruptions. Seek updated information on road conditions before driving in hilly areas in the affected region due to potential landslides.
