Police investigating the kidnapping of six Chinese nationals in Metro Manila, Philippines, as of Nov. 2. Kidnapping threat remains high.

Informational

Authorities are investigating the kidnapping of six Chinese nationals from a residential property in Metro Manila as of Nov. 2. Six armed men reportedly abducted six Chinese nationals and three local employees from a house on Champaca Street in Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa, at around 04:00 Oct. 30. The suspects released the Filipino nationals shortly after in Limao, Calauan, Laguna Province. Details on the status of the abductees and the motive of the incident remain unclear.

The threat of kidnapping in the Philippines, including Metro Manila, remains high. Several organized crime syndicates that focus exclusively on kidnap-for-ransoms operate in and around Metro Manila. Criminal groups typically target workers or customers of POGO companies, Chinese nationals, East and South Asian expatriates, short-term travelers, and members of the Chinese-Filipino business community and their families. Criminal abductions of Westerners are less common, though the threat remains. Authorities rescue most victims, or kidnappers release them unharmed relatively quickly after receiving a ransom payment.
