Serbia: Farmers likely to continue blockades in Vojvodina through late November
Farmers' blockades likely to continue throughout Vojvodina, Serbia, through late November. Transport disruptions, and tight security likely.
Farmer activists will likely continue their road blockade protest campaign across Vojvodina through late November. The actions aim to demand increased government support for farmers, including subsidies for farmland and the removal of an excise tax on diesel fuel. Since Nov. 12, participants conducted scattered road blockages across Vojvodina, largely in rural areas. Demonstrators plan to block the Temerinski Bridge in Novi Sad from 10:00-14:00 Nov. 21; future demonstrations may increasingly affect Novi Sad. Organizers claim the protests will continue until the government agrees to their demands.
Transport disruptions due to blockades are likely throughout the region and may form with little to no warning. Heightened security is likely near any demonstrations that take shape. Low-level confrontation between demonstrators, law enforcement officers, or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.
Avoid demonstration areas as a standard precaution. Be prepared for road blockages if driving through Vojvodina and allow additional time for travel. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
