Activists to gather in multiple urban centers in Brazil to demand lower interest rates from 10:00 Dec. 12.
Activists affiliated with activist groups, including the Unified Workers' Central (Central Unica dos Trabalhadores, CUT), plan to gather in several cities from 10:00 on Dec. 12 to demand lower interest rates. Organizers have confirmed the following specific gathering locations:
Brasilia: Setor Bancario Sul (SBS), Quadra 3 Bloco B
Belem: Boulevard Castilhos Franca, 708
Belo Horizonte: Av. Alvares Cabral, 1.605
Curitiba: Av. Candido de Abreu, 344
Fortaleza: Av. Heraclito Graca, 273
Porto Alegre: Rua 7 de Setembro, 586
Rio de Janeiro: Av. Presidente Vargas, 730
Salvador: 1ª Avenida, 160
Sao Paulo: Av. Paulista, 1.804
Additional protests are possible in other major cities, with potential gathering points including government buildings, central squares, and major thoroughfares. Participation will probably significantly vary depending on location. Ground transport disruptions are also likely in the vicinity of protests. Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor gatherings; low-level confrontations cannot be ruled out.
Avoid all protests as a standard security precaution. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately and seek shelter in the nearest secure location. Allow extra time for travel near planned demonstration sites and in downtown areas of major cities Dec. 12
