Protesting workers are causing significant traffic disruptions in Valparaiso on Dec. 28. Reports indicate that the demonstrators have blocked traffic with burning debris along Avenida Pelle, near Avenida Espana, in the Caleta Portales area. Access to Caleta El Membrillo is also being affected. The protesters are local fishers demanding allegedly overdue payments from the government. Security personnel have deployed to the area.

Disruptions to traffic, business, and port operations are likely in the coming hours. Clashes between protesters and the police are possible.
