DRC: Political activists to stage rally in Kinshasa Dec. 9
Political activists plan to stage rally at the Sainte Therese Field in Kinshasa's N'djili neighborhood, DRC, starting at 08:00 Dec. 9.
Political activists associated with Together for the Republic (Ensemble pour la Republique) plan to stage a rally at the Sainte Therese Field in Kinshasa's N'djili neighborhood starting at 08:00 Dec. 9. The purpose of the gathering is to demonstrate support for presidential candidate Moise Katumbi in anticipation of the upcoming Dec. 20 general election. The event could draw large numbers of Katumbi supporters.
Authorities will almost certainly deploy increased security near Sainte Therese Field during the rally. Clashes between activists and security forces cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely.
Sainte Therese Field is located approximately 6.5 km (4 mi) from N'djili International Airport (FIH) and 1.6 km (1 mi) from National Route 1.
Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the rally and related disruptions. If violence breaks out, immediately leave the area and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Remain polite and nonconfrontational if stopped at a security checkpoint or questioned by police. Heed the instructions of local authorities.
