Finland: Public transport sector workers to strike nationwide Dec. 14

Transport workers affiliated with Finland's trade unions JHL, PAM, Finnish Construction Trade Union, SEL, SAK, and possibly others, plan to strike nationwide Dec. 14. The strike will mostly affect the transport sector. Commuter trains and urban transport including metro, bus, and trams in major cities will likely be affected. The purpose of the action is to denounce social security cuts and salary conditions, and the current lack of government engagement in negotiations. Further strikes could occur in the following days, in case of further government refusal to negotiate.

Transport disruptions are likely in major cities. Associated business disruptions are likely throughout Finland for the duration of the action. Striking workers could stage low-level demonstrations or pickets near their places of employment or government buildings.
