Mexico: Activists affiliated with various organizations to protest across Mexico City Dec. 7

Activist groups to stage demonstrations across Mexico City, Mexico, Dec. 7; heightened security, transport and business disruptions likely.

Warning

Activists affiliated with various organizations plan to stage demonstrations throughout Mexico City on Dec. 7 for a wide array of reasons. One of the largest and most disruptive demonstrations is likely to be the #24F Life and Freedom Coalition protest; activists were scheduled to depart the British Embassy at 12:00 and march toward the US Embassy to demand the release of Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks. Furthermore, activists affiliated with multiple organizations plan to stage a protest at the Hemiciclo a Benito Juarez from 16:00 to demand the dissolution of the current government of Peru, among other concessions. Other protests are also scheduled in the capital Dec. 7, and additional demonstrations may materialize on short notice.

Transport and business disruptions are highly likely in areas that are subject to protest activity. Authorities will likely deploy a heightened security presence to demonstration sites. Clashes between demonstrators and police are possible, particularly if security forces attempt to forcibly disperse protesters.

Avoid the demonstrations as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating in Mexico City and seek alternative routes to circumvent transport disruptions. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
