Warning

Explosions occurred Dec. 15-16 in Yangon's Ahlone, Botataung, Dala, Dawbon, East Dagon, Kyimyindaing, Mingaladon, Tamwe townships. The blasts affected a hotel, courthouse, hospitals, and roads. The explosions killed at least one person and injured several others, though the exact number of casualties is unclear. Anti-junta guerrilla groups have not claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Explosions continue to occur in major cities of Myanmar amid ongoing civil unrest following the 2021 military coup. Most incidents target security forces, government offices, or individuals and organizations supporting the military. Additional blasts are likely. Pro-regime, as well as pro-democracy demonstrations related to the ongoing escalation of armed clashes between ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) in the north and west of Myanmar and associated clashes between protesters and security personnel could increase in frequency over the coming months.
