Poland: Activists demonstrating at Telewizja Polska offices in Warsaw and Opole Dec. 20 /update 1
Activists protesting at Telewizja Polska offices in Warsaw and Opole, Poland, Dec. 20. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.
Activists are protesting at the Telewizja Polska (TVP) offices in Warsaw and Opole as of the early evening of Dec. 20. The purpose of the demonstrations is to denounce the firing of state media heads and the shutdowns of some state media outlets, both of which activists claim occurred illegally. In the Polish capital, low-level confrontations reportedly occurred after demonstrators entered the TVP building. The Law and Justice (PiS) Party plans to hold an additional protest at the TVP Warsaw location from 20:00 Dec. 20.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the demonstration sites. Low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out. Additional protests are possible in other urban centers.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the TVP offices in Opole and Warsaw. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
