Poland: Activists likely to continue protests in urban centers nationwide through at least late December /update 2
Activists likely to continue protests denouncing firing of public television leaders in cities across Poland until at least late December.
Activists will likely continue to protest at Telewizja Polska (TVP) offices in cities across Poland through at least late December. Activists began protesting at TVP offices Dec. 19 following the firing of TVP leadership and the shutdown of TVP outlets. Protests have occurred in Bialystok, Kielce, Krakow, Lodz, and Warsaw. The largest gatherings have occurred at the TVP Headquarters (17 Woronicza Street) in Warsaw; low-level confrontations reportedly occurred after demonstrators entered the TVP building Dec. 19. Demonstrations have generally occured during the day or in the evening.
Demonstrations are likely at TVP offices in urban centers and may form quickly and unexpectedly. Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all demonstration sites. Low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid affected area as a standard precaution. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
