US: Flight disruptions affecting New York area airports Dec. 11 due to severe weather
Flight delays and cancellations ongoing at New York area airports, US, Dec. 11 due to strong winds. Reconfirm flights.
Reports indicate multiple flight delays and cancellations at airports serving New York City due to strong winds as of the evening of Dec. 11. Affected airports include John F. Kennedy (JFK) and LaGuardia (LGA). The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued ground delay programs at both JFK and LGA, with departures averaging 46 to 96 minutes. LGA has issued a statement warning of disruptions due to the weather conditions and advised travelers to check their flight status with airlines and to allow extra time for airport procedures.
The FAA may issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for airports in the New York metropolitan area through at least late Dec. 11. Lingering disruptions are possible even after weather conditions improve as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs.
Confirm flights at JFK and LGA through at least early Dec. 12; do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
