Brazil: Tax auditors to strike in various locations Jan. 22-26

Customs clearance disruptions likely at several airports and ports in Brazil Jan. 22-26 due to a tax auditor strike. Reconfirm shipments.

Informational

Tax Auditors of the Federal Revenue Service aligned with the Sindifisco Nacional plan to strike in various locations from Jan. 22-26. The strike is in response to several grievances, including budget allocation. Inspectors will not carry out cargo clearances at impacted sites. Exceptions will be made for some categories of cargo, including food and medicine.

The impacted sites include:

  • Customs and Inspectorates in the states of Alagoas, Paraiba, Pernambuco, and Rio Grande do Norte

  • Customs at the dry ports of Sao Paulo

  • Customs of Salvador (strike starts on the 23rd)

  • Pacaraima Inspectorate (Roraima State)

  • Porto Alegre Customs

  • Port of Santos

  • Santarem Police Station (Para State)

  • Sao Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport (GRU)

  • Viracopos International Airport (VCP)

Disruptions to cargo processing are likely at these sites for the duration of the strike. Related pickets by striking workers may occur. The likely gathering points are the impacted ports and inspection areas. Protests are unlikely to be overly disruptive or violent.

Reconfirm the status of shipments if planning to transport cargo through the impacted sites Jan. 22-26. Prepare for possible delays and disruptions. Heed the instructions of officials.
