Guatemala: Unionized teachers plan to demonstrate in central Guatemala City Feb. 1

Unionized teachers affiliated with the National Front for Teachers' Struggle union (Frente Nacional de Lucha al Magisterio) plan to gather at Plaza Obelisco and Morazan Park from 08:00 Feb. 1 and march to the Congress of the Republic from 09:00. The purpose of the action is to request the approval of the Ley de Clases Pasivas Civiles del Estado (State Civil Passive Classes Law). The amount of participants the event may draw remains unclear.

Heightened security, business and transport disruptions are likely in the affected area. The event is likely to be peaceful, but isolated scuffles cannot be ruled out.
