Mexico: Residual flight disruptions possible at Puebla International Airport after operations briefly stop amid volcano-related runway work Jan. 15

Popocatepetl ashfall briefly halts flights at Puebla International Airport, Mexico, Jan. 15. Runway reopens; residual disruptions possible.

Warning

Residual flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, are possible at Puebla International Airport (PBC), serving Puebla, over the coming hours after ashfall from the Popocatepetl volcano prompted authorities to briefly suspend flight operations at the facility Jan. 15. State officials asserted that normal flight activity had resumed on the airport's runway as of around 12:00 following runway maintenance work; however, any flight backlogs that materialized during the suspension of operations may cause continuing disruptions.

Further volcanic activity at Popocatepetl may prompt additional flight delays and cancellations at PBC over the short term.

Reconfirm flights if scheduled to travel via PBC Jan. 15. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Contact your airline for updated flight information in the event of further disruptive volcanic activity.
