Spain: Unionized workers to demonstrate at hospitals across Andalusia Jan. 11

Unionized workers to protest at hospitals across Andalusia, Spain, Jan. 11. Heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Workers affiliated with the General Union of Workers (UGT) and Workers' Commissions (CCOO) unions plan to protest at hospitals across Andalusia Jan. 11. The purpose of the demonstrations is to denounce alleged poor management, worker shortages, and long patient waiting lists. The number of participants that the demonstrations would draw or the times at which the gatherings would materialize were not immediately clear. Protests are scheduled to occur at emergency room entrances of the following hospitals:

  • Almeria: Torrecardenas University Hospital (Calle Hermandad de Donantes de Sangre)

  • Cadiz: Puerta del Mar University Hospital (Avenida Ana de Viya)

  • Cordoba: Reina Sofia University Hospital (Avenida Menendez Pidal)

  • Motril: Regional Hospital Santa Ana de Motril (Avenida Enrique Martin Cuevas)

  • Jaen: Emergency Medical-Surgical Hospital (Avenida del Ejercito Espanol)

  • Malaga: University of Malaga Regional Hospital (Avenida de Carlos Haya)

  • Seville: Virgen Macarena University Hospital (Avenida Dr. Fedriani)

Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely near all protest sites. Medical service disruptions may occur at hospitals that are subject to protest activity. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid all protest activity as a standard precaution. Reconfirm medical appointments at impacted hospitals and allow additional time if traveling in affected areas. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
