Retirement activists plan to protest at Kartal Cecenistan Parki (Kartal Chechnya Park) in Istanbul from 14:00 Jan. 21. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce legislation that activists say will result in drastically differing effective retirement ages. It is unclear how many participants will attend; however, a Sept. 25 protest at the same location concerning retirement rights drew several hundred participants.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near Kartal Chechnya Park. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
