Turkiye: Unionized workers to strike, protest nationwide Jan. 11
Unionized metal workers to strike and protest at their places of work across Turkiye Jan. 11. Heightened security likely.
Unionized workers affiliated with the Turkish Metal Union plan to strike and protest nationwide at all locations under the Metal Industrialists' Employers' Union (MESS) contract in Turkiye on Jan. 11; over 150,000 Turkish Metal Union members will participate. The purpose of the work stoppage is to demand wage increases and improved worker rights.
Heightened security is likely near affected sites. Localized transport disruptions and low-level confrontations cannot be ruled out near demonstrations. Strike and demonstration times will likely vary by location.
Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Remain vigilant for protest-related transport disruptions. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbances may occur.
