Coalition forces assisting vessel on fire after tanker hit by Al-Houthi projectile in Gulf of Aden near Yemen, as of early Jan. 27.

Warning

As of early Jan. 27, coalition forces are assisting Marshal-Islands-fagged Vessel, Marlin Luanda, after an Al-Houthi missile struck the ship in the Gulf of Aden. UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) state the vessel was struck 60 NM (69 km) off the southern coast of Aden and is currently on fire. Ship officials have deployed firefighting suppression control measures. UKMTO officials have also stated that all crew members are safe.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region and regular missile and drone launches against commercial ships by the Al-Houthis in the Red Sea.

Authorities will almost certainly heighten security measures in the vicinity of the Gulf of Oman and the Red Sea over the coming days. Consequent disruptions to shipping are likely. Additional attacks are likely over the coming days.

Exercise caution and consider preparing security measures if transiting through the Red Sea. Report all suspicious activity to relevant authorities.
