Municipal elections are scheduled across Costa Rica Feb. 4. Voting will take place 06:00-18:00, primarily in public buildings, including schools. More than 200,000 people, including members of the police, will reportedly monitor the electoral process and safeguard election-related sites.

Authorities will almost certainly implement heightened security measures, potentially including road closures, near polling stations. Election-related demonstrations are possible in locations across the country. Some disruptions to business and transport are likely. The election will likely remain largely peaceful; however, isolated acts of violence in or around polling stations cannot be ruled out.
