DRC: Activists plan protest in Kinshasa Feb. 22
Activists to march in Kinshasa, DRC, Feb. 22 to denounce ongoing violence in eastern regions. Increased security, disruptions likely.
Members of the Tutsi community are planning to march through Kinshasa Feb. 22 to denounce ongoing violence in eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Activists plan to gather at Place des Evolues before marching to the Ministry of Justice. The gathering was scheduled to begin in the late morning. Smaller demonstrations may also take place outside of foreign embassies, including French, US, and UK diplomatic offices, and UN offices due to the perceived negative influence of Western nations in the conflict.
A heightened security presence and localized disruptions are likely near the protest sites. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces are possible. Further protests may occur over the coming weeks.
Avoid all protests. Plan for road travel delays near gathering sites. Do not drive through roadblocks. Wait for the police to clear them. Reconfirm the status of road routes before departure. Maintain contact with diplomatic representations.
