DRC: Government official calls for protest in Kinshasa from 08:30 Feb. 14

Government official calls for rally in Kinshasa from 08:30 Feb. 14 over the conflict in eastern DRC. Disruptions likely.

Informational

The Minister for Gender, Family, and Children has called for a rally in Kinshasa on Feb. 14. Participants plan to gather from 08:30 at the Central Station before marching towards the Place de la Nation. The purpose of the action is to support peace and government initiatives in eastern DRC. It is unclear how many people will attend.

As of Feb. 13, officials have deployed increased security and banned gatherings of more than five individuals in the Gombe area of the capital following unrelated disruptive protests near foreign representations and UN offices. Nonetheless, the rally will likely go ahead on Feb. 14, given the pro-government nature of the action.

An increased security presence and road delays are likely along and near the march route. Clashes with security forces are unlikely.

Avoid all the protest route to minimize associated disruptions. Leave the area immediately at the first sign of any security disturbances. Heed instructions from authorities.
