Hungary: Opposition politicians to lead demonstration in central Budapest Feb. 25

Opposition politicians to lead demonstration at the Parliament Building in Budapest, Hungary, from 15:00 Feb. 25. Tight security likely.

Warning

Opposition political leaders plan a joint demonstration against the government at the Parliament Building in Budapest, from 15:00 Feb. 25. The protest will call for the direct election of the president and to denounce the alleged improper use of state pardons. Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Budapest Feb. 16 for the same cause, and similar numbers took part in a march Feb. 21; it is possible that even larger crowds will participate on Feb. 25. Further protests are likely.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the demonstration.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central Budapest in the afternoon of Feb. 25. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
